Technology Vision
All Floyd Middle Magnet School students and faculty will utilize technology equipment and software easily and appropriately to facilitate life-long learning. In order to achieve this level of technological confidence, the educational process will be enhanced at Floyd Middle Magnet School by:
- Completing curriculum-based technology projects, student electronic portfolios, and technology competitions,
- Exposing learners to worldwide communications, information and resources through the use of the Internet, and
- Increasing student career awareness and preparation through technology-based programs.
Floyd Middle Magnet School will also foster positive relationships between the school faculty, staff, administration, students, parents, and community through collaborative technology programs and activities, utilizing a wide variety of available resources amongst all parties involved.
Technology Duties and Responsibilities
As the Technology Coordinator, I am responsible for many tasks such as the
following:
- Assist and support teachers with the integration of
technology in their curriculum areas.
- Organize the design and delivery of technology staff development
programs for the magnet school faculty and administration.
- Provide helpdesk assistance for teachers and students in
software applications and hardware troubleshooting.
- Teach Computer Applications I and II and Computer
Technology to sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.
- Design and maintain the official school website.
- Develop and implement the school Technology Plan.
- Supervise the design, installation and maintenance of the
school-wide network for the magnet school.
- Update and manage all local area network users and files.
- Select, install, and maintain computer hardware and software
programs for the entire school.
- Organize, implement and supervise technology-related activites, fundraisers, field trips and competitions.

To increase academic excellence by incorporating
technology into an integrated curriculum.
Technology Ojectives
- Learning Objective: Promote learning that is active, pertinent and authentic through the use of technology.
- Technology Integration Objective: Align the use of technology with local, state, and national content standards and curricula to enhance learning and enrich teaching.
- Professional Development Objective: Provide the instructional and administrative staff with the professional development training that allows them to utilize effective technology skills.
- Environment Objective: Cultivate lifelong learning communities in which the tools of technology support learning.
- Access Objective: Provide every student, teacher, and administrator with the technological tools to access and process information.
- Cost of Ownership Objective: Fund technical support, maintenance, and emerging technologies to improve learning.
Action Plan
Action Plan to Achieve Learning Objective:
- To integrate at least 1 technology-based project per subject area
- To have students use available equipment and software for math and science experiments in a lab setting
- To have students visit the computer lab at least once each nine-week period for projects/activities/tests
- To have students use portable equipment such as DreamWriters, E-Mates, laptops, & calculators on a routine basis
- To develop partnerships with professional partners for distance learning
- To offer information and online courses from professional partners, such as ASU, AUM, and the Space & Rocket Center
- To offer email to every student through aol@school to communicate worldwide for the purpose of learning geography, culture, language, and other curriculum-based standards
- To offer technology instruction as a part of the curriculum rather than merely an elective
- To have students meet local, state, and ITSE National performance standards
Action Plan to Achieve Technology Integration Objective:
- To have 10% of teachers develop interactive, online lessons
- To use technology in creative and fun ways such as PowerPoint Jeopardy, online quizzes and games, and the Quizzer
- To have student complete 1 cross-curricular, tech-based project suitable for publishing on the FMMS intranet or website
- To have teachers update www.SchoolNotes.com on a weekly basis
- To have teachers develop classroom pages to link to the FMMS website to include their syllabus, rules, supplies, etc.
- To have teachers utilize network software such as AR, Compu-Teach, Career Futures, etc.
- To make videos in the library as "Video On Demand" via the school's network and intranet
- To use web portals such as www.marcopolo.worldcom.com , www.teams.lacoe.edu , www.school.aol.com , and www.funbrain.com
- To expose students to the use of digital cameras and video camcorders for projects at least once during the school year
- To develop a school-wide, tech-based career awareness program including software, guest speakers, career fairs, etc.
- To have math classes incorporate a tech-based stock market project using the internet and spreadsheet software
- To develop real world application programs such as TV broadcasting, entrepreneurship, A+ and Microsoft certification
Action Plan to Achieve Professional Development Objective:
- To have teachers meet the ISTE National Performance Standards for All Teachers
- To have teachers attend at least 1 tech-related conference, workshop, or training outside FMMS during the year
- To have the Tech Coordinator offer suggestions during team planning on how to integrate technology in their classroom
- To have a weekly technology training session either during team planning, faculty meeting, or inservice
- To have teachers complete a Microsoft Office User Specialist online course and certification test
Action Plan to Achieve Environment Objective:
- To have teachers share resources such as notes, projects, plans, templates, photos on the FMMS intranet
- To utilize network resources weekly
- To establish departmental meetings to ensure technology is being integrated to meet the curriculum coherently
- To develop partnerships with math, science and tech-related businesses for support and materials, such as WVAS, WSFA, Baptist, Regions/SouthTrust Banks, Merrill Lynch, etc.
- To have 10% of student participate in some form of technology-related competition
- To open supervised labs from 8:25-8:45 a.m. every weekday
- To establish a student-run TV broadcast each morning to be aired via Channel One technology
- To develop an after-school program in math, reading, science, and technology for students, parents, & the community
- To establish electronic portfolios of every students work throughout their FMMS career to be transferred to CD-R upon their leave
Action Plan to Achieve Access Objective:
- To electronically disseminate announcements and information via Lotus Notes and/or the FMMS intranet
- To make available tutorials, manuals, and guides via the FMMS intranet
- To ensure every person has a LAN login and secure file storing location
- To ensure each classroom has at least 3 networked computers
- To make advanced technology available to the classrooms
- To offer every student email access through aol@school
- To ensure teacher/student/parent communication through SchoolNotes
- To ensure every student and teacher can register for Alabama Virtual Library home access cards through the FMMS library
- To update the FMMS website monthly
Action Plan to Achieve Cost of Ownership Objective:
- To obtain a full-time Technology Coordinator
- To have at least 1 professional vendor offer demonstrations each month
- To ensure no equipment goes unrepaired for more than 4 weeks if it can be repaired on site
- To recruit a team of 10 students, interns, and other volunteers for minor maintenance and repair work
- To build a small, but adequate storehouse of replacement parts
- To purchase warranties on all new equipment
